Is Youth Wasted on the Young?

Recently, the words of an old song crossed my mind – ‘maybe youth is wasted on the young, we can’t go back but we’ll go on, singing love songs we had once begun before we drifted far apart’…….. As I thought about those words, I could feel the pangs of regret being poured out into the words. Opportunity lost. If only we could turn back the hands of time. Oh, to be young and carefree again!

Might I remind all youth to carefully observe the Biblical advice from Ecclesiastes 12: 1Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”. Serve God while you are young, strong and have the energy to do so. Delay is danger, because tomorrow is promised to no-one.

Today I share with you an article on the subject. Let’s delve into this topic and give your opinions on whether or not youth is wasted on the young. Meet me in the comments. Happy reading!

Youth – A Precious Commodity Squandered

Youth is a fleeting gift, a vibrant tapestry woven with boundless energy, limitless dreams, and the audacity to challenge the status quo. Yet, paradoxically, it is often squandered by those who possess it most – the young themselves.

The Illusion of Time

Perhaps the greatest culprit is the illusion of time. To the young, the future stretches out like an endless horizon, promising infinite possibilities. This perceived abundance leads to procrastination, a tendency to delay important tasks or decisions. The belief that there will always be “tomorrow” can stifle ambition and lead to missed opportunities.

The Tyranny of the Moment

Youth is also marked by a relentless focus on the present moment. Social media, video games, and other distractions can consume hours, days, even years, leaving little time for reflection, learning, or personal growth. While these activities can be enjoyable, they can also become a form of escapism, shielding young people from the challenges and responsibilities of adulthood.

The Fear of Failure

The fear of failure can paralyze even the most talented and ambitious young people. The pressure to succeed, whether it’s in academics, athletics, or social circles, can be overwhelming. This fear can lead to a reluctance to take risks, to try new things, or to step outside of one’s comfort zone.

The Importance of Perspective

As we age, we gain a greater appreciation for the preciousness of youth. We realize that the time to learn, to grow, and to make a difference is now. The young, with their boundless energy and open minds, have the potential to shape the future in profound ways.

To fully embrace the gift of youth is to recognize its limitations and to use it wisely. It is to balance the pursuit of pleasure with the pursuit of purpose. It is to dream big, work hard, and never give up on the hope of a better tomorrow.

Let us not waste this precious commodity on fleeting pleasures and empty distractions. Let us use it to build a better future for ourselves and for generations to come. With God in the mix, you can never go wrong.

This is a really good article , for young youth to realize progressive process and behaviors of balancing youth_adult hood. It’s very important that youth today recognizes their true potential and take healthy RISKS. Getting out of your comfort zone is not negative,it’s the way to BECOME and MORE.

I totally agree with you Mr. Campbell. I hope that this will open the eyes of our young people to make the most of the opportunities that come their way. It’s easy to think that they have time on their hands and to keep procrastinating, but as my teachers at school always say, time wasted can never be regained.
