Devotional – God Can Transform a Life
•
And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 – (Amplified Bible)
One morning, as I finished my walk and headed home, I could not help but notice a house that stood at the corner of the street. For years it had stood forlorn, dilapidated, unkempt, deserted and a terrible eyesore. Each time I passed I wondered what had become of the owners and why they had allowed the house to deteriorate so badly. It was an oddity, sticking out like a sore thumb, a contrasting sight to the other houses along the avenue, which were always in immaculate condition.
After a while, I realized that there seemed to be some level of activity taking place at the location. It became that the house had been sold and that the new owners were about to start renovations. First there was a load of marl, then there was sand and then steel. Things were about to happen, it seemed.
For a while, I did not venture onto that avenue, so I was not aware of how much work had gone into transforming the structure. I was pleasantly surprised when I passed that morning and saw the noticeable difference. It was no longer an eyesore. Instead, it had become a sight for sore eyes! As I marveled at the lovely view, the Lord dropped the thought into my spirit, ‘that is how I can transform a life!
And indeed, He can. How often have we written off ourselves and others because we think that it’s just too much work? Or we give up on someone because we think that they are too far gone for even God to change them? It’s not over until God says it’s over. God is the God of second chances, and He is always willing to extend a hand of mercy to anyone who calls out to Him with a repentant heart. If we partner with Him, He can transform us into His image, from glory to glory, as the Scripture above indicates.
Allow Him to transform your life. Allow Him to transform you from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly, turning your mess into a message, as He brings glory to His Name.
Reflection
How can I partner with God to bring transformation to my life?
What are the areas that I need to surrender to Him?
Prayer
Father, I thank you that you are a God of second chances. Thank you that you can transform my life and make me brand new. Thank you that you are willing and able to give me a fresh start. Help me to surrender to you totally. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
