•
Show yourself some love today, St. Valentine’s Day, by adopting a habit that will catapult you into being a better version of yourself.
That C word…some love it, some hate it, some lose their self-control and financial independence because of it. The credit card, which many see as evil, does not have to be, if you use it wisely. Be in the know. Your credit card can become your best friend, which sticks close in times of trouble. When you find yourself in a spot of bother because of unexpected expenses, a credit card can come in quite handy, as I have experienced a few times in the past.
Using a credit card requires discipline. It is not time to spend like there is no tomorrow. Be sober in your thinking and actions. Remember that whatever you borrow, you MUST repay.

Here are a few personal tips from me, someone who has been using credit cards for more than 20 years and have never been in debt:
- I spend only if it is necessary to do so
- I never spend more than I can afford to pay back from my next paycheck
- I repay on time and in full to avoid paying interest
- I never pay the minimum balance – that’s a recipe for debt and financial ruin
- I note my credit card cycle and time my purchases accordingly
