Salvation Saturday – Today is the Day of Salvation
•
During personal evangelism training, one of the tough questions we are taught to ask persons we are witnessing to is this:
If you were to die today, why should God allow you to into heaven?
The sad reality is that many are of the view that they should be allowed into heaven because they are good people. That is as far from the truth as the east is from the west. Your good works cannot guarantee you a spot in heaven. It has nothing to do with what you have done but instead, it has everything to do with what Christ has done.
We were all born in sin and are in need of salvation so we can be in a right relationship with God. Jesus the son of God gave his life on a cross in order to pay the penalty for our sins and has offered us the free gift of salvation according to John 3:16. This was the greatest demonstration of love. According to Romans 10: 9-10, if we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, then we will be saved…i.e.. we have accepted the gift of salvation which leads to eternal life.
Have you accepted the gift of salvation? It is being freely offered to you today. A gift has no value to you until you accept it, open it and partake of it. Accept the gift of salvation, unwrap it and begin to walk in it, with God’s strength and the encouragement and support that comes from fellowship with members of the body of Christ. Do not hesitate, because TODAY is the day of salvation. Tomorrow is not promised and there is no repentance in the grave.
While we are, not saved by our good works, we are saved to do the good works that God prepared in advance for us to do, according to Ephesians 2: 10. If you acknowledge that Jesus is Lord, repeat this prayer of repentance and accept Him into your heart. Then live for him and as He did, wherever He went, do good.
Prayer
God, I confess that I am a sinner and am in need of your forgiveness. I accept your free gift of salvation. Come into my heart and make me a new creation. Help me to serve you with all of my heart for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
